STORY ON "WOMEN'S MICROBIOMES"

This story on the body's different types of microbiomes was a bit tough to pinpoint visuals for that weren't expected.  Working with the editor to brainstorm visuals for this story, it became apparent that each microbiome in the body is like it's own working island; each including specific bacteria to fight off unwanted ones as well as work together to keep it working efficiently to make the body better overall. I commissioned this illustration to depict Microbiome "islands" and made sure these illustrations were not only light-hearted and fun, but wanted to make sure it was visually layered with specific elements that accompanied the very scientific jargon and information of what is in a woman's microbiome.
